SHNA MEETING MINUTES – 3/12/12

Board Members Present:  Richard Braziel, Gordon Reiselt, Elizabeth Doak, Craig Wallace, Jim Montalbano, Matt Sexton, and Ian Sansom.  See Attachment 1

Meeting called to order: 7:00 pm

Treasurer’s Report:  See Attachment 2

Approval of Prior Minutes: The minutes from the February 13, 2012 Board Meeting were approved.

Trees & Landscaping:

  • Trees on Yale between Coal & Central need more care and water. Ian drafted a letter and Gordon sent it to Ike Benton under Gordon’s signature.
  • Watering on Silver and Gold – The grass on silver needs to be treated with a weed & feed fertilizer. Last year the water was not turned on until May, the grass really suffered and some had to be replaced. Katy Braziel will contact the Parks Department to get the watering started soon.
  • There is a dead tree and rosemary bush on Silver that needs to be replaced. Katy Brazielwill contact the Parks Department.
  • The walk thru on Lead & Coal will be occurring soon and Craig Wallace will work withTom Ocken to ensure things are working correctly.
  • Dana Craig reported that large acorns are falling from the burly bark oak trees in front of her house and a pedestrian tripped on one. She just wanted everyone to be aware of this hazard.

Zoning:

  • 1502 Silver SE – The owners are appealing the ruling.  Bill Cobb is handling for the SHNA.
  • 1401 Silver SE – Juanita Garcia informed Gordon Reiselt that the Zoning Department will perform a safety inspection.

Mid-Valley Drainage Management Plan:

There will be a public meeting for the Mid-Valley Drainage Plan on Tuesday March 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the basement hearing room a Plaza del Sol building located at 600 2nd   Street NW. The study area does not include our neighborhood so the SHNA will not be attending. If you are interested in attending  Attachment-3_Page1, Attachment-3_Page2.

Presbyterian Growers Market:

PresbyterianHospitalis sponsoring a grower’s market in the vacant lot north of Central every Tuesday from June thru October.

Neighborhood News Bulletin:

Block Watch:

Block watch is a program where neighbors on a block are encouraged to share contact information and watch out for each other.  If you are interested in being a block captain and organizing your block please call Sandy Pino with the City.

Trash Cans:

Several years ago we started putting out trash cans so the people who walk thru our neighborhood would have somewhere to dump their trash instead of dropping it on the street.  This has been very successful and we have added new cans every year. We have some trash cans again this year that need someone to adopt them (empty them when full). Craig Wallace will contact Mindy and Don Grossburg at 1801 Gold about adopting one and will install it for them if they agree.  Katy Brazielwill ask Dana Craig about them adopting one.

Neighborhood Photographs and Logo:

Gordon will talk toMaria Lozano to check the status. Ian will try to develop a logo and will present at the April Board Meeting.

Transportation Study:

UNM, CNN, AlbuquerqueInternationalAirport, City of Albuquerque, and BernalilloCounty have received a grant to study transit to serve the hospitals, airport, universities, and sports arenas in our area.  Their goal is to, “Reduce congestion, improve accessibility and mobility, identify convenient and affordable transit options, connect diverse populations to educational institutions, healthcare jobs and services, businesses, and neighborhoods.” To learn more see the attached information. SHNA Website:

Jim Montalbanowill develop a promotional strategy for increasing awareness of our website and present at the April Board Meeting.
