Board Meeting in July: – There will be a Board Meeting on Aug 14, 2017
Bike Share Program: Valerie Hermanson, Transportation Planner, with the Mid-Region Council of Governments (MR-COG) talked to the Board about the current status of the Bike Share Program. Albuquerque almost started the first program in the country in 2008 but the economic downturn caused the project to be started elsewhere. Two years ago PNM contributed $15,000 to “Main Street” to get it started. But when local business saw how good it could be for downtown they donated an additional $85,000. This has allowed the installation of 75 bikes, 15 bike stations with kiosks in multiple locations around downtown. Valerie has been working with the different City, County, & State entities to find the right home for this piece of new infrastructure. Rio Metro who runs the commuter rail from Belen to Santa Fe, Rail Runner, was very interested and has taken the responsibility to expand the Bike Share Program. MR-COG and Rio Metro have received a $600,000 grant to expand the Bike Share Program and are seeking input on locations for the bike station/kiosks. The stations require a pad approximately 20’ X 5.5’. Bike Share Handouts
