All of these board members expressed a willingness to continue serving in their current positions. There were no other members that were willing to be nominated from the floor. The above listed board members were nominated, seconded and approved unanimously.
SHNA Membership Dues Increased: SHNA needs additional money. Currently individual SHNA members are paying many of the SHNA expenses which allow us to accomplish our goals. Therefore regular membership dues will increase from $5.00 to $10.00/member starting August 2011. Students, seniors (70+), and hardship memberships would still be $5.00/Person. The increase in dues was approved with a vote of 8 for and 1 opposed.
New Website: Our new website is information, bi-lingual, interactive, with blog, links, and is now live. Thanks go out to the IT Committee (Matt Sexton, Maria Lozano, & Jim Montabano). Check it out at www.SilverhillABQ.org.
Neighborhood News Publication: Gordon passed around the Dec-10/Jan-11 and the Jan-11/Feb-11 publications by the Office of Neighborhood Coordination called the Neighborhood News.
Treasurer’s report: The Treasurer’s report was approved and is attached.
Amendment of By-Laws: Article 4, Section 2 was modified to include a new Board position for Information Technology (IT). Matt Sexton was nominated to fill this position and was approved unanimously. Also the bylaws were modified to state that he annual meeting would be held in January of each year. The ONC required that the bylaws state a specific month so that they can notify the Board accurately about our annual report deadline.
Luminarias: Many of the Board Members were out of town for Christmas and were not able to participate in setting up and lighting Christmas luminarias. Matt Sexton took the lead so this event did not have to be cancelled. The Board is grateful for the work of all of the volunteers who made Christmas Eve so beautiful.
Zoning:
1916 Central: A beer and wine license waiver was approved
1404 Silver: A Certificate of Appropriateness for windows replacement was approved
1800 Central (Silver & University): Hookah King (M&M Smoke Shop) has more signs than allowed by City Ordinance. The City (311) has been notified but no response has been received to date. Other members reporting to 311 may help. The discussion also included how the website could help with this type of reporting and follow up. Matt and the IT Committee will evaluate what can be done.
KRQE/Channel 13 Contact: Gordon was contacted by Alex Tomlin from KRQE/Channel 13 to provide access for SHNA into the news media. Tomlin-alex.Tomlin@krqe.com or 991-6865.
Martin Heinrich: Martin Heinrich sent a letter to Gordon thanking him for his leadership and to let us know that Veronica Martinez would be a contact person that would like to attend our meetings. She can be reached at veronica.martinez@mail.house.gov or 505-877-4069.
Our Presbyterian Donation & Pictorial History of Silver Hill: Gordon continued to try to track down the funds from Presbyterian Hospital that Peter Schilke says are ours. Repeated phone calls to Don Hancock on that subject and on Pictorial History of Silver Hill were not returned and so Gordon sent an email requesting information.
Pictorial History of Silver Hill: A representative of Acadia Publishing contacted Gordon about creating a publication. If anyone is interested in pursuing this, Gordon and other Board members have the contact information.
Albuquerque Historical Society Museum Walk: Janet Saiers is interested in doing a walking tour of the Silver Hill Neighborhood in July of this year. This is different from the Huning Highlands home tour scheduled for May of this year. Elizabeth will contact Janet and coordinate.
Crime Statistics: The APD Neighborhood Alerts showed us with 27 alerts which is well above our threshold. Property crime appears to be accelerating as the economy continues to lag. Matt is going to see if we can use the website to document neighborhood crime and communicate about them to the neighborhood.
Yale Closing: Tom reported that Yale will be closed Feb. 14th at Lead and south of Coal. This closure is due to a combination of construction projects: Lead / Coal Re- development project and Yale Storm Drain project. The closure will last approximately 30 days. There is a proposed entrance to Smith’s on the east side of their parking lot off of Harvard or at Coal and Harvard.
Poetry Opportunity: Alanna requested that anyone who writes poetry or short stories and wants to have them included in her UNM poetry class publication should contact her. Matt will assist her in putting this announcement on the website.
Meeting Adjourned: 8:40 PM
